TotalEnergies has shipped the first LNG cargo from the ECA LNG Phase 1 export terminal in Baja California, Mexico, marking a key milestone for the project.
TotalEnergies holds a 16.6 per cent stake and will offtake 1.7 million tonnes per year (Mtpa) of LNG for 20 years, serving as the sole buyer during the ramp-up phase.
The 3.25 Mtpa facility uses US natural gas from the Permian Basin and is strategically positioned to supply Asian markets through shorter Pacific shipping routes.
Commercial operations are expected to begin after substantial completion in summer 2026.
