Established in the 1940s, Abdel Hadi Abdullah Al Qahtani Group of Companies has expanded tremendously.
It is considered one of the largest and most reputable privately owned companies in Saudi Arabia with excellent relationships in both government and commercial sectors. The group is headquartered in Dammam.
Originally founded by Sheikh Abdel Hadi Abdullah Al Qahtani as a wholesaler and supplier of food products and materials, the group's business has grown and diversified into supplying other industries, including petrochemicals and the oil and gas industries. As the need grew for local manufacturing and local products, the group diversified its activities in the 1950s to include manufacturing, contracting and services.
Huge investment and facilities in pipe corrosion services, manufacturing of spiral weld steel pipes, water treatment chemicals, nails, galvanised wire manufacturing, industrial and medical gases, water bottling, engineering and construction and bulk food packaging now make up a large portion of the group's activities.
A leading company of the group is Group Five Pipe Saudi (GFPS). It is a joint venture between Abdel Hadi Abdullah Al Qahtani & Sons Group of Companies (Tariq Abdel Hadi Al Qahtani & Brothers) and Group Five Pipe in South Africa. GFPS has been recognised as a manufacturer of carbon steel large diameter spirally welded pipes. It has a modern factory to supply pipes for use in key sectors such as oil and gas, water and construction.
The company produces 20 to 160 inch-diameter pipes with thickness starting from 0.24 to 1 inch. Pipes of 20 to 120 inch-diameter are used by the first and second sectors.
An experienced and highly qualified crew of engineers and technicians whose goal is to achieve the major goals of the company manages the plant. These goals include the realisation of safety and production of dependable high quality goods. The quality assurance and maintenance systems and procedures followed by the plant as per the API and ISO 9002 standards support this goal. The plant was awarded a certificate by each of the afore mentioned agencies and is licensed to use the API certification and monogram.
Plant production started in early June 2001 with an annual production capacity of 67,000 tonnes of carbon steel pipes but recently increased production to 135,000 tonnes of iron pipes per year.
The plant has benefited from the expertise of pioneering parties in the field of manufacturing and processing of pipes. The first party is Abdel Hadi Abdullah Al Qahtani & Sons Group of Companies whose experience extends to more than half a century and were, and still are, pioneers in the field of supply and coating of pipes.
The second party is Group Five Pipe Company, which is a pioneer in the field of manufacture of carbon steel pipes in South Africa. The plant uses the expertise of these two pioneers in order to achieve group integrity and satisfy the needs of local and Arab markets.
The company has succeeded in producing pipes in fulfillment of the needs of the local market for pipes of big diameter and has exported part of its production to neighbouring countries. The company has crowned its success with the production of the largest iron pipe of its kind ever in the history of the industry with a diameter of 3 metres as a pure Saudi production.
Al Qahtani Pipe Coating Plant has coated the largest pipe in another first in the history of the industry.
