BACKGROUND

Dubai Water and Electricity Authority (DEWA) has initiated a plan to develop an Independent Power Producer (IPP) project, which is Phase 6 of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum (MBR) solar park. DEWA has doubled the Phase 6 capacity from 900 MW to 1,800 MW. When completed, this phase will provide clean energy to approximately 540,000 residences and reduce 2.36 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually and will increase the solar park’s total production capacity to 4,660 MW.

PROJECT SCOPE

The project’s scope includes solar park and 1,800 MW capacity, and solar panels.

Scope for pipes provided by BUTTING include solar receiver pipes in material TP 321 comprises fixed lengths of 4.06 m and are produced in the dimension of 88.9 x 2.3 mm.

According to DIN EN 10217-7 / TC1 and customer specifications, the pipes are produced from cold-rolled strips. The required roughness values of Ra < 0.25 µm are achieved on two grinding machines running in parallel.

PROJECT STATUS

As of November 2025, DEWA is currently implementing the project. Construction is progressing.

PROJECT FINANCE

Masdar has signed the Power Purchase Agreement with DEWA to develop the project. DEWA will retain a 60 per cent stake in the project and be the sole off taker of the power generated from the plant.
