Saudi Arabia aims for a sustainable energy mix, with solar and nuclear potentially supplying over half of its power by 2040.
Vision 2030 targets 130 GW of renewable capacity by 2030, but only 13 GW had been achieved by 2025, with GlobalData projecting 74.2 GW by 2030, well short of the goal.
The country would need to add over 23 GW annually to meet the target.
Saudi Arabia remains self-sufficient in electricity, relying on vast oil reserves and domestic natural gas. Recent NREP rounds awarded 4.5–5.3 GW of solar and wind projects, highlighting gradual growth, but a major energy overhaul is still urgently needed.
