Global renewables to double

Global renewable energy capacity is set to more than double from 4.1 TW in 2025 to 8.4 TW by 2031, driven by solar PV scalability, cost reductions, and supportive policies.

In 2025, solar PV led global generation at 2,800 TWh, with China contributing 41 per cent of output.

Wind followed at 2,770 TWh.

AI and data centres are emerging as key growth drivers, optimising grid efficiency and renewable adoption.

While the US faces slower deployment, global renewables continue rapid expansion, led by China.
