Belgium, Brazil, China, and Italy back nuclear by 2050 pledge
The World Nuclear Association welcomed Belgium, Brazil, China, and Italy as new supporters of the Declaration to Triple Nuclear Energy by 2050, joining 38 nations committed to expanding nuclear power for clean, secure, and affordable energy.
Announced at the Nuclear Energy Summit 2026 in Paris, hosted by France with IAEA support, leaders discussed nuclear’s role in energy security and climate goals.
A round table called for coordinated action: Stable government policies, scalable industry delivery, confident financial investment, and long-term demand signals.
Through the Net Zero Nuclear initiative, global collaboration aims to triple nuclear capacity by 2050 to meet climate targets and improve energy access.
Speaking from Paris at the Nuclear Energy Summit, Dr Sama Bilbao y Leon, Director General of World Nuclear Association, welcomed the newest endorsers. He said: "Today’s announcement adds tremendous momentum to the global coalition of the ambitious, who are supporting the declaration to triple nuclear capacity by 2050. The ambition of the countries joining the declaration is recognised in our World Nuclear Outlook Report which shows nuclear capacity can exceed the tripling goal, if government targets are met. Collectively, governments and industry must now turn this ambition into action and deliver."
