Panduit is a global leader in wiring and communications products, delivering end-to-end solutions that meet demanding electrical and networking requirements.
Established in 1955 in the US, Panduit, with a turnover in excess of $675 million and staff strength of 4,000, today has presence in over 140 countries globally.
The company’s new Middle East office is also receiving an excellent response.
Panduit’s leadership position is maintained by an aggressive new product introduction programme, the result of an annual investment of 10 per cent of its turnover in research and development.
“We continually develop innovative products to meet today’s applications and environments,” says Jim Graham, director Global Oil & Gas, Panduit.
The company’s product range includes cable management products, copper cabling systems, power and grounding connectors, cable ties, cable identification equipments and solutions, fibre routing products, fibre distribution systems and a full line of fibre optic connectivity products.
Panduit also offers a comprehensive line of safety and facility identification products designed to assist with compliance of OSHA standards. It also manufactures a wide range of labelling systems and printers. One of its recent products include stainless steel tie which replaces cable cleats used for fixing cables to ladder racks. As there are no time consuming fixings required, it is therefore easier to install and takes only 30 seconds compared to conventional cable cleats that take about 10 minutes to install.
Another labour saving product launched recently includes the automatic Metal Marker Plate System and Easy Mark for cable identification.
The Metal Marker Plate machine is used to emboss characters on to the metal identification plates that are predominantly used to identify cables and associated equipment. The cable identification software Easy Mark enables users to view a selection of labels in accordance with the application. Operators can choose the label and input the diameter of the cable core and the programme automatically chooses the correct part number needed.
The company set up its Middle East office in Dubai in January 2005 and has received a very good response from the market. “We have moved to a bigger facility and are hiring more people as the company grows to meet the demands of the biggest project market in the world,” says Graham.
Panduit offers high quality products and a complete solution for both onshore and offshore markets. Some of its projects include the Dolphin project in Qatar and QGX in Qatar. Panduit has also supplied to Lamprell, McDermott, MIS, QGM and NPCC.
Commenting on the challenges facing the industry Graham says, “Tthe biggest issue today is the influx of low-cost, poor-quality products that in some cases does no conform to international standards.
“We are working with design companies from across the globe and engineers to tighten specifications ensuring quality and that higher standards are the aim across the project as opposed to “Fit-For-Purpose” products being installed.
“For example we manufacture a complete range of stainless steel cable strapping and ties for cabling. We have seen cables falling off racks due to poor quality cable ties and fixings that were not able to withstand the heat or were not strong enough to hold the weight of the cables. This is not just a product problem but also a serious health and safety issue,” he says.
“The inflow of cheap products also puts pressure on contractors to cut cost this in turn has a knock-on effect for vendors who in turn have to cut costs while still maintaining the highest quality possible.
“Another major challenge faced today is the rising cost of raw materials, for example copper. Manufacturers are showing great flexibility and are responding to the crisis with new products to offset some of the raw materials costs. There are challenges on one side and on the other there are opportunities. The current economic growth looks set to keep heating up energy markets and boosting the demand for cables,” he concludes.
