The year 2006 has been a year of major achievements for MESC Specialized Cables Company, says regional manager Said Al Karram.
The company won some major contracts, increased its production capacity, added new products to its product line and also expanded to new markets.
One of its recent achievements includes a major contract award by Consolidated Contractors International Company SAL (CCIC) to supply $2.5 million worth of instrumentation cables for the ORC- Mina Al Fahal Isomerisation Unit Project in Oman.
The company has worked with CCIC on several large projects earlier such as Ras Laffan Common Cooling water in Qatar, among many others, says Said Al Karram.
Oman’s first oil refinery operated by ORC was constructed in Mina Al Fahal producing gasoline, jet fuel, LPG butane, gas oil, kerosene and bunker fuel.
The initial capacity of 50000 bpd was subsequently increased to 80000 bpd to satisfy the increasing domestic demand as well as the country’s exports.
ORC is also planning to set up an isomerisation unit to improve the octane rating of straight run gasoline by isomerising the n-paraffins to branched isoparaffins.
The process involves conversion C4, C5 and C6 feed streams into their various isomeric equivalents. The feedstock for the unit will be a mix of light naphtha which is being produced in the refinery and condensate from Oman LNG.
“Having a good product is merely a qualifying criterion in today’s competitive quarrying industry-but providing a high level of support is increasingly what clinches the deal.
“Our main priority is focusing on our customer’s needs and requirements. It’s their trust in MESC brand and team that had the major impact in our success, and in positioning the company today as one of the leading cables manufacturer and supplier not only in the region but worldwide,” he says.
Yet another significant gain in the year 2006 was expanding to new markets we are proud to approach and be able to compete, such as the East Area Projects EPC3 Bonny River in Nigeria with JGC Corporation of Korea.
“Every project awarded strengthens our experience and market position in the region and helps achieving the company’s mission. MESC’s flexibility will enable it to provide optimal cable solutions to its EPC Contractors’ projects essentiality,” he adds.
MESC Specialised Cables was established in 1993 and operations began in the following year. Although it was established to cater to the specialised cables industry, it later expanded into low voltage and system cables.
As demand kept rising, the company expanded its facilities, going through five upgrades. Yet another expansion is in the process. A training centre was established in 2003.
Its pioneering efforts and ability to provide customers real benefits in terms of efficiency, quality, cost and swift and reliable services, along with the international awareness of the MESC brand, have paid off in a way that it has become the primary brand name in the Middle East cables industry.
