Adgas is fully committed to meet the requirements of the UAE Federal Law and ADNOC HSE guidelines through development and implementation of a comprehensive Environmental Management System which is an integral part of Adgas HSEMS.
Adgas identified the following environmental objectives for the basis of its improvement:
• Reduce CO2 emissions by capturing flared gas;
• Reduce SO2 emissions through plant efficiency improvement;
• Replace Ozone Depleting Substances(ODS) with eco friendly substitutes;
• Reduce impact of its operation on marine environment;
• Encourage waste segregation and recycle for the prevention of land pollution; and
• Encourage environmental awareness amongst its employees.
Adgas have identified 15 environmental aspects as significant and developed several environmental programs to improve its environmental performance.
Flaring and emissions
Flaring is one of the most important concerns of Adgas operation. Efforts are continuously maintained to reduce flaring from its plants.
Flaring and emissions are monitored on daily basis and Adgas is the pioneer amongst the Adnoc group of companies for discharge inventory compilation and emissions reporting as per international standards.
A state-of-the-art instrument network for measuring stack emissions and ambient air quality is an identified project and once implemented, will strengthen its system for verifying legal compliance.
Installation of one more LPG train and boil off gas compressor will reduce flaring and also CO2 emissions.
Effluents
Adgas is currently focused on minimising its impact of its operation on the marine environment.
A study has been completed to characterise process effluent streams and their disposal options. Adgas is also a member of the Adnoc sponsored study group for assessing the impact of discharge of cooling water on the marine environment. The domestic sewage from Adgas plant and accommodation area will be treated shortly in the new Sewage treatment plant at Das island.
Solid waste
It’s a standard operational practice in Adgas to segregate waste in different categories at the point of generation.
The generation and disposal of all the waste are tracked and monitored Awareness campaign is done routinely to emphasise the need for recycling of plastic, paper, metal and wooden packaging waste.
