TotalEnergies finds offshore oil, supporting Congo’s production expansion target

TotalEnergies has announced a new hydrocarbon discovery on the Moho license offshore of Congo, reinforcing the country’s ambition to reach 500,000 barrels per day (bpd) in oil production.

The discovery, located in the Moho G structure within the prolific Moho complex, encountered a 160-m hydrocarbon column in high quality reservoirs and is close to existing infrastructure, enabling cost effective tie backs and faster development.

Operated by TotalEnergies with partners including SNPC and Trident Energy, the find strengthens expansion plans supported by over $500 million in recent investment to boost the Moho Nord area.

The Moho complex already accounts for more than half of Congo’s oil output and benefits from existing FPSO capacity, allowing new resources to be rapidly monetised.

The discovery follows earlier Moho finds and supports infrastructureled exploration strategies aimed at improving project economics.

Across the broader sector, Congo is advancing additional upstream projects, including new offshore platforms and drilling campaigns targeting further reserves, alongside major LNG expansion led by Eni.

With growing investment in both oil and gas, Congo is positioning itself as a leading mature producer focused on optimising existing assets, expanding production capacity and strengthening its role in regional energy markets.

“TotalEnergies’ latest discovery in Congo sends a strong message to the market this is a country where infrastructure, policy and partnership come together to unlock real value. Congo is proving that exploration is not just about frontier basins, but about maximising what you already have and doing it smarter, faster and more efficiently,” states NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman, AEC.
