Masdar signs Kazakhstan projects

Masdar and Samruk-Kazyna will jointly develop renewable energy and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Kazakhstan.

The agreement, signed during the Kazakhstan-UAE Business Forum, aims to provide up to 500 MW of baseload renewable energy and 2 GW capacity BESS projects.

Masdar, the UAE's clean energy leader, is currently developing a 1GW wind farm with a 600-MWh BESS in Kazakhstan.

The agreement also includes the ratification of the Intergovernmental Agreement signed at COP28 in 2023 for the 1GW wind project, marking a significant milestone towards its implementation.

UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Dr Sultan Al Jaber said: "By leveraging Masdar’s expertise in renewables and battery storage technology, Kazakhstan will be able to address today’s energy needs while creating new jobs, stimulating its economy and preparing for the growing demands of tomorrow.

Samruk-Kazyna CEO Nurlan Zhakupov said: "This agreement represents a step forward toward increasing the share of renewable energy in Kazakhstan’s energy mix, using advanced technologies to support a more sustainable and resilient energy future."
