Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has been contracted by Hokkaido Electric Power (HEPCO) to design a carbon capture plant for its Tomato-Atsuma Power Station, in Japan.
The plant will capture 5,200 tonnes of CO2 per day from flue gases emitted during boiler combustion.
The facility is expected to be the largest in Japan, and involves a carbon capture storage project in the Tomakomai area, with the aim of storing 1.5 million to 2 million tonnes of carbon per year by 2030.
