The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development has announced the expansion of the Gulf Power Interconnection Project, launched in December 2022, as a strategic milestone in advancing energy integration across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

The project, which will enhance electricity exchange efficiency and ensure long-term sustainability, will augment Kuwait’s national grid capacity by 2,500 MW.

Kuwait remains the primary economic beneficiary of the project, with financing provided by two loans totalling KWD70 million ($224 million).

The Al Wafra 400-kV Station and its link to Saudi Arabia are expected to be operational by December 2024, enabling Kuwait to advance energy resilience and regional connectivity.
