The Philippine Department of Energy has introduced a framework prioritising the country’s first nuclear power plant, the Pioneer NPP, with incentives for its integration into the energy mix.
Signed by Sharon Garin, Energy Secretary, the circular establishes the Pioneer NPP as a baseload facility with priority dispatch, reported World Nuclear News.
Within 90 days, the DOE will explore financing models and ensure grid readiness for nuclear power integration.
Flexible contracting mechanisms and a Regulatory Asset Base model will support financial viability, while the Pioneer NPP will be certified as an Energy Project of National Significance, granting further incentives and fast-track processing.
