The Government of India aims to achieve 100 GW of nuclear capacity by 2047 to support a cleaner future, bolstered by the 2025 Union Budget’s Nuclear Energy Mission.

As India targets a $30-trillion economy with a per-capita income of $18,000-20,000 and a net-zero goal by 2070, over 80 per cent of electricity generation is expected to come from non-fossil sources.

Current nuclear capacity stands at 8.88 GW, necessitating an average annual increase of 4.14 GW.

While the roadmap is feasible due to India’s capabilities, challenges like energy storage, component manufacturing, and mineral access must be addressed.
