ABB to support Adnoc’s Ruwais LNG plant
ABB will deliver advanced automation, electrical and digital systems for Adnoc’s Ruwais LNG facility, the region’s first all-electric LNG plant.
The company will supply its microcontroller-based Electrical Control and Monitoring (ECM) system, part of ABB Ability System 800xA, to enhance efficiency, safety, and real-time management of electrical assets.
Awarded by the TJN EPC joint venture, the contract includes solutions for rapid fault detection, load optimisation, and improved power reliability.
Using electric-driven motors for the liquefaction trains will help reduce emissions and support Adnoc’s sustainability goals.
Jafurah Cogeneration plant begins
GE Vernova announced the start of commercial operations at the Jafurah Cogeneration Independent Steam and Power Plant (ISPP), located 125 km southeast of Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
GE Vernova supplied the core equipment, including a 7HA.01 gas turbine, and will provide 20 years of maintenance and parts.
The high-efficiency cogeneration facility will supply up to 320 MW of electricity and 314 tonnes/hour of steam to support the Jafurah gas field.
By 2030, the field is expected to produce significant volumes of natural gas liquids, condensates, and ethane.
"Electrification unlocks the full potential of LNG as a transition fuel to support decarbonization efforts and meet growing energy demands by providing reliable, abundant and affordable natural gas around the world," said Bjarte Pedersen, Senior Vice President IMEA at ABB’s Energy Industries division.
ENVEA wins Jafurah contract
ENVEA has secured a multi-million-dollar contract to supply advanced mercury monitoring systems for Saudi Arabia’s Jafurah Natural Gas Processing Plant.
The company will deliver a comprehensive multi-stream solution that tracks mercury levels in real time across the facility.
This enhances safety, prevents corrosion, optimises production, and reduces environmental impact.
The project linked to a reserve holding an estimated 200 trillion scf of gas.
Nuberg EPC wins Oman plant contract
INDIA’S Nuberg EPC has secured a contract to expand Al Ghaith Chemical Industries’ Sur Industrial City facility in Oman, adding a 120 TPD Chlor-Alkali Plant and an 80 TPD Calcium Chloride Plant.
The turnkey project covers design, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning, targeting completion in 19 months.
Building on Phase I’s 70 TPD plant, the expansion increases total capacity to 190 TPD.
Egypt finds gas in Western Desert
KHALDA Petroleum Company has announced a natural gas discovery in Egypt’s Western Desert, with an estimated production of 36 million cubic feet per day. Testing and initial flow assessments are underway at the Gomana-1 exploratory well, with production plans in progress. The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources highlighted that the discovery aligns with Egypt’s strategy to boost production and attract investment to expand exploration and drilling activities.
Mideast leads in autonomous ops
SCHNEIDER Electric’s new research shows the Middle East is rapidly advancing toward autonomous energy operations, with nearly 80 per cent of leaders reporting high readiness.
Many organisations say they already operate at Level 4 of the ARC model—far ahead of the global average of Levels 1–2.
Nearly half aim for full Level 5 autonomy within five years, led by the UAE at 58 per cent.
Cost efficiency is the main driver, with expected gains in competitiveness, financial performance, and smarter operations.
A pilot with Adnoc Refining demonstrates AI-driven autonomy reducing energy use, emissions, and enhancing performance.
Wood wins Iraqi oilfield contract
WOOD has secured a contract to deliver project management and engineering services for PetroChina at the West Qurna 1 oilfield in southern Iraq.
Under the contract, Wood will manage engineering, procurement and construction projects.
Located approximately 50 km north-west of Basra, West Qurna 1 holds more than 20 billion barrels of recoverable reserves and is a cornerstone of Iraq’s energy infrastructure.
Ellis Renforth, President of Operations, Europe, Africa and Middle East at Wood, said: "The West Qurna 1 field underpins the nation’s energy security and contributes significantly to its economic resilience. This contract award deepens our decade-long partnership at West Qurna 1 and reflects the continued trust placed in Wood to deliver complex energy solutions in Iraq.
The contract will be delivered by nearly 200 Wood employees based in Iraq and the UAE.
Dana Gas to redevelop Syrian fields
DANA Gas has signed an MoU with the Syrian Petroleum Company (SPC) to explore redevelopment and expansion of central Syria’s gas fields, including the major Abu Rabah field.
As the first developer to sign such an agreement, Dana Gas will conduct a technical assessment and, if successful, propose a development plan to boost gas production, pending a final agreement with SPC.
Mideast leads in clean industry
THE Middle East is emerging as a pivotal player in the global clean industrial transition, with over 1,000 clean projects in development worldwide. Recent reports by Industrial Transition Accelerator (ITA) and the Mission Possible Partnership (MPP) indicate an acceleration, with 70 projects worth $140 billion expected to be shovel-ready soon.
The region sees this as a generational opportunity, intensifying decarbonisation efforts in heavy industry and clean fuels for aviation and shipping.
Key initiatives include Egypt’s clean cement and hydrogen projects and the UAE’s investments in green ammonia.
