Japanese ethylene production fell by 4.5 per cent in October from a year earlier due in part to a plant maintenance shutdown, data showed.

Ethylene output totalled 646,400 tonnes last month, down from 677,100 tonnes in the same month a year earlier, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said.
Output was up 11.8 percent from 578,300 tonnes in September.
There was one planned maintenance shutdown in Japan last month, while no plants were shut in the same month a year earlier, METI said.
Ethylene, made from naphtha, is a basic feedstock for petrochemicals that are processed into products.
