Royal Dutch Shell said output at its 98,000 barrel per day Scotford oil refinery near Edmonton, Alberta, was rising as the company buys crude to supply the facility to replace supply from Shell’s oil sands upgrader, where a November 19 fire hobbled production.
Randy Provencal, a spokesman for the company, said production was gradually rising at the site, which had been operating at “minimal rates”.
He declined to specify how much Scotford is now producing.
“Production rates are gradually being increased as we get the feedstock that we needed,” he said. “It’s gradual because it really depends on feedstock.”
The Scotford refinery is normally supplied by Shell’s Scotford upgrader, which converts tar-like bitumen from northern Alberta’s oil sands into synthetic crude.
