Quality gratings a class apart

USG ... double-throw welding lines for production of grating panels

Amanufactured product for nearly 100 years, metal grating is an assembled grid or metal lattice of parallel bearing bars with crossbars or crimp bars used to space and hold the bearing bars erect.

The assembled grid is used to cover or floor any of various openings. Grating provides a surface but allows air, light, heat, sound and water to pass through. It is strong and durable, and virtually maintenance free. Metal grating is either custom fabricated or provided in “stock panels” and is available from Saudi-based United Steel Grating (USG) in a wide variety of sizes, spacings, thicknesses, surfaces, and finishes, depending on the application´s environment and load requirement.
“USG manufactures a variety of gratings sizes as per the customer requirement for the applications in industrial plants as working platforms, catwalks and stairs in exact geometry and all sizes,” says a company spokesman.
“The grating welder designed for us by EVG is RD 95/40 is capable of producing very high quality gratings at very high speeds of 3 m/min. The gratings are hot-dip-galvanised as per requirement. The galvanising plant has been designed and supplied by Protherm engineering, UK,” he explains.
Any size between 2.0 to 7.0 mm thicknesses and heights 20 to 80mm bearing bar sizes with square twisted, ribbed round, plain round cross bars spacing from 4.0 mm to 8.0 mm. Gratings can be supplied plain seratted (black or galvanised).
Accurate in dimensions, neat appearance, smooth clean lines, even ends and flat surface.
Apart from the standard sizes, special sizes and shapes are also offered as per the design and drawings of the customer after performing the cutting to the required shape, ready for installation.
United Steel Grating’s factory manufactures and market the special gratings under the dynamic leadership of Abdullah M Al-Othman of Al-Othman group.
The group was established in 1970 by Mohammad Al-Othman, the founder chairman.
Dwelling on the applications of metal gratings, the spokesman says metal floor grating may be required by regulatory standards in certain circumstances. It is a reliable, proven product for industrial flooring because it withstands heavy equipment, rolling loads and pedestrian traffic.
Many different materials can be used for gratings, including carbon steel alloys, aluminum, and stainless steel. Each material has specific advantages; carbon steel industrial flooring gratings are good for high-traffic floor areas; aluminum grating is lightweight; corrosion resistant and non-sparking, so it is well-suited to situations where strength to weight ratio is important, such as wastewater treatment plants. Stainless steel grating is used in areas with elevated temperatures and certain corrosive environments.
In many applications, metal grating is the best choice for strength and long-term cost savings. One can choose metal grating instead of solid flooring when one needs open area to allow passage of light, air, heat and sound between flooring levels, flooring on which liquids and/or debris cannot collect, flooring where slip resistance is an issue, areas where easy installation and fabrication are important, areas where there are complex floor patterns and hard-to-fit areas and situations that require a high strength-to-weight ratio.
The most common uses for metal bar grating is in commercial and industrial flooring, including mezzanines, catwalks, platforms, ramps, subway and sidewalk grating.
