Background
The MGSE project consists of 2 phases. The purpose of the MGS Expansion is to meet increased demand in the Central and Western regions by providing 12.5 bscfd of Gas by 2020 thorough the installation of new pipelines and booster gas compression stations. The phase 2 of the project includes an additional three booster compressor stations.

Project scope
Phase 2 of the MGSE projects includes:
• Package 1: Western region pipeline – The scope of work includes the construction of 422 kilometres of 56 inch pipeline on Aramco’s East West Pipeline 2. The estimated budget for this package is $827 million.
• Package 2: Central region pipeline – The scope of work includes the construction of 226 kilometres of 46 inch pipeline on the East West Qassim Gas pipeline 1. The estimated budget for this package is $364 million.
• Package 3: Eastern region pipeline – The scope of work includes the construction of 150 kilometres of 56 inch pipeline on the Shedgum Riyadh Gas Pipeline 3 as well as 40 kilometres of 56 inch pipeline on the Shedgum Riyadh Gas 2. The estimated budget for this package is $372 million.
• Package 4: East West Pipeline 1 Upgrade – The scope of works includes upgrade works on 10 sections of the existing pipeline without resorting to any shutdowns. The total length of the upgrade section is 51 kilometres.
• Booster Compressor Station – Booster Gas Compressor Station (BGCS-1) will include new power generators call O.R.C. (Organic Rankin Cycle) on the three sites (BGCS-1, 3 & 5).
