The current economic environment is driving the need for process-driven industries to improve business performance.
It is clear that unexpected plant downtime must be avoided, assets must perform optimally and last as long as possible to maximise return on investment and energy consumption must be controlled while product yield is maximised.
As a result, Honeywell Advanced Solutions which includes Advanced Process Control (APC) technology is increasingly being relied on to boost productivity, efficiency, safety and ultimately, profits. Since its launch in 2003, Honeywell’s Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS) fully integrated with a broad Advanced Solutions portfolio, has proven to be extremely successful in helping thousands of customers worldwide improve productivity and profitability with innovative technology.
In the Middle East, companies like the Qatar Vinyl Company (QVC) deployed Experion in an effort to upgrade their legacy systems and reduce costs. Radhakrishnan Nair, head of Automation and Instrumentation for QVC says: “Our migration to a common Experion platform will address our previous operating system obsolescence and should result in a marked reduction in overall cost ownership and maintenance costs. Honeywell has helped us to streamline our processes and hence allowed us to reap the benefits of efficient process control technology.”
In Kuwait, Equate Petrochemicals Company and Kuwait Paraxylene Production Company (KPPC) both use the Experion platform to manage their production processes. Equate chose the Experion platform in 2006 to upgrade the legacy systems at its petrochemical site which produces ethylene glycol, polyethylene and polypropylene in Shuaiba. Installing Experion enabled Equate operators to better manage critical application processes, throughout the entire facility. Similarly, KPPC installed Experion at a new KPCC plant and based its selection not only on the features of the platform but on the experience of Honeywell’s local team and its ability to deliver a smooth, low-cost implementation.
Experion transforms process control beyond traditional Distributed Control System (DCS) functionality by unifying people with process variables, business requirements and asset management. It is the only automation system that focuses on plant personnel and making the most of their knowledge. Experion delivers a 30 per cent reduction in maintenance costs, 1 to 3 per cent increase in production and 1 to 2 per cent decrease in costs due to asset effectiveness, 1 to 4 per cent increase in production due to process optimisation, up to 13 per cent increase in production volume and five per cent decrease in production costs, 40 per cent reduction in operator-related incidents and up to 50 per cent better return-on-investment over facility lifecycle.
“Experion features a variety of applications that make it the ideal choice for a process control solution,” says Mansour Belhadj, Advanced Solutions sales director for the Middle East. “For example, Experion proactively manages assets in real-time to minimise downtime and improve asset performance. It also optimises control performance across the entire manufacturing process and increase profitability. Its operations applications improve plant uptime and safety by capturing and translating data into consistent and actionable knowledge and its business applications improve profitability with an integrated business solution that delivers comprehensive data in real-time across the entire supply chain.”
