Turkey sales boost

Turkey sales to treble in five years

Saudi Basic Indus-tries Corporation (Sabic) plans to treble its sales in five years to Turkey, where the petrochemical giant has just opened an office, the company said.

"Sabic plans to develop still further its operations in Turkey to increase its sales to 600,000 metric tonnes of polymers and 600,000 metric tonnes of chemicals, within the next five years," it said in a statement, without providing figures on the current level of sales.
A senior Sabic executive said the firm last year sold 268,000 tonnes of polymers and 112,000 tonnes of chemicals to the Turkish market.
Sabic chairman Prince Saud bin Abdullah Ibn Thunayan Al Saud described Turkey, where the company has been expanding since the 1980s, as "one of Sabic's important strategic markets".
"Within the Turkish marketplace, Sabic sales represent 12 per cent polyethylene and polypropylene, five per cent polystyrene and 15 per cent of chemical products. Sabic looks forward to increasing these figures in line with Turkey's economic growth," the statement quoted him as saying.
