Nabors' Rigline 24/7™ Remote Operations Center in Saudi Arabia

With a focus on innovation, automation, and sustainability, Nabors Industries is well-positioned to support the region’s energy ambitions, ensuring that drilling operations are efficient, safe and environmentally responsible

As the Middle East solidifies its position as a global leader in energy production, the importance of integrating cutting-edge technologies into drilling operations has never been more crucial.

The region’s energy landscape is evolving rapidly, driven by ambitious national visions like Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which aims for economic diversification and sustainable development.

Nabors Industries is at the forefront of this transformation, bringing advanced digital solutions, automation, and innovative equipment to enhance drilling safety, efficiency, and environmental performance across the region.

ADVANCING DRILLING OPERATIONS WITH AUTOMATION AND DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES

Nabors recently secured a significant contract from Saudi Aramco to deploy its innovative rig automation technology and related services.

This contract represents the first large-scale rig automation project in the region, building on Nabors’ extensive experience in the Middle East and successful trials of the SmartROS® rig operating system.

With a proven track record on over 157 drilling rigs worldwide, the SmartROS® rig operating system enhances well construction through consistent, repeatable processes that optimise efficiency and safety.

The initial deployment in Saudi Arabia involves equipping five rigs with the SmartROS® system, with more expected to follow.

Over the past year, Nabors has upgraded several Saudi Aramco Nabors Drilling Company (SANAD) rigs with this technology, enabling a transition to digital and automated drilling methods similar to those that have delivered outstanding results in US shale operations.

Early outcomes in the Middle East have shown impressive reductions in connection times and improvements in rate of penetration (ROP), underscoring the value of automation in boosting operational performance.

One of the key advantages of the SmartROS® platform is its versatility; it can be scaled for use on any AC rig, not just Nabors rigs.

This opens the door for widespread automation across the region’s drilling fleets, enabling greater efficiency across the industry.

A NEW MILESTONE IN SAUDI ARABIA: A HUB FOR INNOVATION

Early this year, Nabors took a significant step forward in the Middle East by inaugurating its new Saudi Arabia headquarters.

The facility includes a state-of-the-art Rigline 24/7™ Center designed to offer exceptional customer service and remote operations support for Nabors’ technologies.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by industry leaders and key stakeholders, highlighted Nabors' commitment to strengthening relationships within the region and spearheading the future of drilling.

During the event, Anthony Petrello, Chairman, CEO, and President of Nabors, and Siggi Meissner, President of Energy Transition, emphasised the strategic importance of this new facility.

Kevin Almeida, Managing Director – Saudi Arabia at Nabors, said: 'The Rigline 24/7™ Center is crucial for supporting the Kingdom's technological advancements and aligning with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 by providing seamless technical support, remote monitoring, and digital operational assistance.'

LOCAL MANUFACTURING AND SUPPORT: BUILDING ON DECADES OF EXPERIENCE

In addition to digital advancements, Nabors is deeply invested in supporting the region through local manufacturing and services.

Canrig, Nabors' equipment and manufacturing division, has expanded its operations in Saudi Arabia with a newly upgraded 15,000-sq-m facility in Dammam.

This site serves as a key centre for the production, repair, and recertification of drilling equipment, catering both to Nabors and third-party needs.

The facility has delivered significant successes this year, producing over five Canrig® Automated Power Catwalks entirely in-kingdom using primarily locally sourced parts.

This in-country production reduces costs while ensuring high-quality outcomes and enhances personnel safety by eliminating manual handling of tubulars.

In addition, the facility has recertified over 30 top drives and multiple other critical components, showcasing Nabors' dedication to regional value creation and operational excellence.

DECARBONISING OPERATIONS: A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE FOR DRILLING

Nabors’ technological leadership extends to environmental sustainability. The company offers a suite of solutions aimed at reducing emissions and enhancing energy efficiency, including artificial intelligence, rig electrification, and advanced lighting systems. In the Middle East, the Canrig ILLUMIC™ Lighting System is a standout innovation, with its energy-efficient LED technology significantly improving visibility during night operations while reducing fuel consumption.

These initiatives align with broader regional goals to decarbonise the energy sector and ensure responsible operations.

DRIVING THE FUTURE OF MIDDLE EAST DRILLING

By leveraging its deep industry experience and strategic relationships, Nabors is leading the transformation of drilling operations in the Middle East.

With a focus on innovation, automation, and sustainability, the company is well-positioned to support the region’s energy ambitions, ensuring that drilling operations are not only more efficient but also safer and more environmentally responsible.

As the region continues to evolve, Nabors remains a pivotal partner in realising a technologically advanced and sustainable future.
