Wartsila has completed large-scale testing of its Active Ignition Mitigation System (AIMS), designed to prevent flammable gas build-up in battery energy storage systems (BESS).

The system, which uses sparker systems and door-mounted deflagration panels, was tested in three full-system tests in the US, simulated worst-case thermal runaway scenarios within Wartsila’s Quantum2 containerised BESS enclosure.

The tests confirmed the system’s ability to maintain safety and functionality under extreme conditions.
