Emirates Water and Electricity Company (Ewec), a provider of water and electricity services in the UAE, has emphasised its role in accelerating the decarbonisation of Abu Dhabi’s water and power sector.
Ewec’s strategy aligns with the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative and the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy’s Clean Energy Strategic Target 2035 for electricity production, which aims for 60 per cent of Abu Dhabi’s power demand to be met by carbon-free sources by 2035.
By 2030, Ewec aims to reduce the carbon dioxide intensity of electricity generation by 54 per cent and water production emissions by 94 per cent.
This will be achieved through the integration of renewable and clean energy, advanced storage technologies, and low-carbon-intensive desalination.
