Kuwait’s extreme desert conditions, with summer temperatures exceeding 50 deg C, challenge oil extraction equipment like progressive cavity pumps (PCPs).

A leading local oil and gas service company partnered with WEG to equip PCPs with 25 customised AFW11 variable speed drives (VSDs) capable of withstanding temperatures up to 55 deg C.

The drives feature self-cooling designs and smart controllers for predictive maintenance, optimising performance and reliability.

Since deployment, the PCPs have operated fault-free for three years, ensuring minimal downtime, increased productivity, and energy efficiency.

Following this success, an additional 40 VSD panels have been ordered for expansion.
