Officials at the agreement exchange ceremony
We, a German multinational energy company, has signed two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with Adnoc and Masdar, strengthening energy security in Germany and Europe.
The strategic collaboration with Adnoc sets a framework to explore LNG deliveries of up to 1 million tonnes per annum for up to 10 years, equivalent to 12 cargoes or 1.4 billion cu m of natural gas annually.
The agreement also includes cooperation on short-term LNG trading, reinforcing long-term partnership commitments.
Separately, RWE and Masdar will explore investments in battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Germany.
Masdar aims to invest in existing RWE BESS projects with up to 1 GW capacity by 2030 and jointly develop new projects of up to 1 GW by 2035.
These initiatives will enhance renewable energy integration, balance intermittent supply, and ensure stable, affordable, and reliable power, supporting the growing electricity needs of data centres and the wider energy market.
Dr Markus Krebber, CEO of RWE: "I am very pleased about our strategic collaboration with Adnoc, which underscores our shared commitment to securing Europe’s energy needs. Our plans build on a successful and long-lasting partnership. By establishing new LNG supply agreements, we are strengthening the security of supply for Germany and across Europe, while further diversifying RWE’s global LNG portfolio for the benefit of our customers. The MoU with Masdar reflects the importance RWE and Masdar place on flexible energy storage as a foundation for grid stability, security of supply, and the integration of renewable energy – core pillars of Germany’s climate neutrality and energy policy objectives. Our collaboration is underpinned by a strong track record, most recently demonstrated by our joint success in the latest UK offshore wind auction for the Dogger Bank South projects. Together, we are making significant progress towards a secure and sustainable energy future for Europe."
