AkzoNobel’s solvent-free epoxy gelcoat support faster cycle times
AkzoNobel’s International brand has launched RELEST Wind EP Process Coat, a fast-drying, solvent-free epoxy in-mould gelcoat for wind blade manufacturers in Europe and China.
Part of the RELEST blade protection range, it simplifies application, improves throughput, and enhances health and safety by eliminating isocyanates and reducing mixing complexity.
The product lowers pin-holing, minimises finishing work, and supports faster cycle times, allowing mould application at up to 50 deg C, potentially saving 1.75 hours per cycle.
Laboratory and field trials confirm benefits such as reduced cleaning, lower waste, simplified joint coating, and easier maintenance.
RELEST Wind EP Process Coat aims to streamline production, cut costs, and boost high-volume wind blade manufacturing efficiency.
"As manufacturers expand capacity to keep up with the growing global demand for wind energy, protecting people is just as important as protecting performance," said Uwe Pinzer, Global Business Sales Manager, Wind Energy, at AkzoNobel. "RELEST Wind EP Process Coat reflects our commitment to helping customers strengthen their health and safety standards while maintaining the quality required for high-performing blades. It’s part of how we support the industry’s shift towards cleaner, more modern manufacturing practices that are better for teams on the factory floor, as well as boosting production productivity."
