Kopex safeguards power and data cabling

Recent conflicts across the world have demonstrated the extent to which western armed forces rely on modern methods of warfare, and have underlined the importance of protecting equipment against such concerns as enemy surveillance systems, as well as the threat of an electro-magnetic pulse (EMP).

As one of the foremost manufacturers in the field, Kopex International can offer the MOD and its contractors a comprehensive range of conduits for wiring protection with Nato numbers for use in both building services and weapon systems applications, the company says.
It has developed products able to offer electro-magnetic compatibility (EMC) -giving protection against interference from a wide spectrum of frequencies.
Kopex has also been working towards achieving compliance with the new code of practice covering EMP, while its conduits offer high levels of physical strength.
The majority of Kopex’s conduit systems have been accredited under IP67, while the flexible products have undergone the cyclical testing set out in EN 50086.
The high levels of screening against interference available are achieved through the inclusion of multiple layers of specialist material braiding, the company said.
What is more, unlike some rival products, the performance of Kopex Internatio-nal’s systems does not just extend along the length of the conduit, but also encompasses the connectors.
The metal conduit systems in the range comply with the requirements of Defence Standard 59-41, which deals with electro-magnetic compatibility. They will also offer shielding against surveillance or spying scanners as directed under the requirements for `tempest’, the company explained.
With duty of care placing emphasis on health and safety in all aspects of MOD contracting, specifiers are also attracted to the performance of Kopex systems in relation to fire safety and blast resistance. In addition to Limited Fire Hazard coverings and conduits which do not release any toxic fumes, the manufacturer is also the sole supplier of the Baseed approved Atex Flameproof Gland; suitable for Zone 1 and Zone 2 locations.
