Sulzer launches Libya JV
Sulzer has formed a joint venture with Jawaby Services and Investments, a subsidiary of Libya’s National Oil Corporation, to deliver in-country rotating equipment services.
The new company, Jawaby Sulzer Services, will operate from Misrata Free Zone, offering maintenance and repair for pumps, turbines, compressors and generators in oil, gas, power and industrial sectors.
The move reduces reliance on overseas repairs, cutting delays and improving operational efficiency in Libya.
Turbine market to hit $23.4bn by 2030
The global gas and steam turbines market is expected to grow significantly, reaching $23.4 billion by 2030, driven by demand for efficient, low emission energy and the shift toward cleaner power.
Asia-Pacific leads global growth, with strong expansion in both gas and steam turbine markets due to infrastructure upgrades and rising energy needs, according to GlobalData report.
Europe is shifting away from coal, while the Americas focus on retrofits and extending existing plant lifespans.
Bio inspired metal extraction
Chinese scientists have developed a green, high efficiency membrane separation method to selectively extract critical heavy metals for clean energy technologies.
Inspired by biological calcium ion channels, the system uses nano sized channels to precisely filter ions like uranium while blocking others.
Tested in seawater, it efficiently recovered uranium over 22 days.
The method reduces pollution, chemical use, and energy consumption, and could improve sustainable mining and recycling of vital metals.
Indonesia keeps fuel subsidy prices steady
Indonesia will keep subsidised fuel prices unchanged until the end of 2026, Bahlil Lahadalia, Energy Minister, announced, following President Prabowo Subianto’s directive.
The decision is supported by stable fuel supplies and manageable fiscal conditions, with Indonesia Crude Price remaining below budget assumptions.
Despite relying on significant fuel imports, the government says energy stability is secure and is also exploring cooperation with Russia to strengthen long term energy security.
Burckhardt wins LNG compressor orders
Burckhardt Compression, a leader in reciprocating compressor technology, has secured orders to supply compressor systems for LNG terminals in Thailand and Taiwan.
The deal includes eight Laby compressors for boil off gas (BOG) handling and one for minimum send out service, improving safe and efficient LNG operations.
The oil free, gas tight Laby technology supports low emissions, high reliability, and reduced maintenance needs.
These projects strengthen the company’s role as a key supplier for Asia-Pacific LNG infrastructure.
Spain ‘off track’ for net-zero goals
DNV’s analysis shows Spain is progressing in its energy transition but remains ‘off track’ for its climate targets and full decarbonisation.
Emissions have fallen 13 per cent since 1990, below the 32 per cent goal, though a 74 per cent reduction is expected by 2050 under current trends.
Transport remains the largest emitter, while power sector emissions will drop sharply due to renewables.
The report highlights the need for major grid expansion, storage, carbon capture and storage, and stronger social acceptance to support the transition.
ERA launches clean hydrogen push
The European Resilience Alliance for Clean Hydrogen & Derivatives (ERA) was launched at the European Parliament in Brussels, opened by Teresa Ribera, a Clean, Just and Competitive Transition, and co-hosted by Members of the European Parliament Andrea Wechsler and Nicolás Casares.
ERA is a CEO led pan-European initiative uniting major industrial companies across the hydrogen value chain to strengthen energy security, competitiveness, and strategic autonomy.
It highlights low investment progress, proposes four policy pillars, and calls for urgent coordinated action.
Galkynysh gas expansion begins
Turkmenistan and China have begun expansion works at the giant Galkynysh gas field, one of the world’s largest.
Located in the Karakum Desert, the field has been producing since 2013 and is the second largest globally.
Turkmenistan, holding the fourth largest gas reserves, has exported most of its production to China since the 2009 Central Asia–China pipeline opened.
The expansion is being led by China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), strengthening long term energy cooperation between the two countries.
Global OTEC hits offshore milestone
Global OTEC has installed a floating prototype platform in the Canary Islands, marking a milestone in commercialising Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC).
The system uses temperature differences between warm surface water and deep cold water to generate clean electricity.
The project includes a 50-metre deep-water intake pipe installed at the PLOCAN test site, overcoming a major technical barrier.
Funded by the EU Horizon Europe programme, it aims to validate offshore performance, reduce failure risks, and advance scalable renewable ocean energy solutions.
Gradiant wins water facility project
Gradiant, a provider of advanced water and wastewater solutions, has secured a contract to design and deliver a water treatment facility for a hyperscale data centre in Didcot, Oxfordshire, UK.
The project will support a major AI and cloud infrastructure provider on a former power station site.
Gradiant will provide integrated water treatment, recycling, and zero liquid discharge systems to ensure reliable cooling, reduce water consumption, and minimise environmental impact.
The project reflects its Site Wide Peace of Mind approach to end-to-end water management.
