A consortium led by Abu Dhabi renewable energy company Masdar with partners - Al Khadra Partners, Korea Midland Power Company (Komipo) and OQ Alternative Energy (OQAE) - has awarded a engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to China's CPECC for the development of Ibri III solar storage project in Oman.
The country's first 500 MW solar-plus-storage facility is being set up at an investment of $299 million. Once operational, it will integrate the solar photovoltaic plant with a 100 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), marking a milestone in the country's clean energy development.
On commissioning, the project is expected to generate enough electricity to power roughly 33,000 homes and offset over 500,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.
The project advanced significantly in September when Nama Power and Water Procurement (PWP) signed the power purchase agreement with the Masdar-led consortium.-TradeArabia News Service
