Saudi-based Technology of Petroleum Services (TPS) has won big recognition for the quality of its Mechanical Joint Integrity (MJI) training in the kingdom at the 13th annual Engineering Construction Industry (ECI) Training and Development Awards in London.

The prestigious ceremony, organised by the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB), is to honour the very best of engineering construction talent in Great Britain and globally.

It celebrated excellence in training and development in the ECI, which spans sectors that focus on the construction, maintenance and decommissioning of heavy industry, such as oil and gas, renewables, power generation and chemicals.

The Technology of Petroleum Services is a global provider of advanced tools and solutions for the upstream and downstream oil and gas industry, petrochemical plants, industrial facilities, manufacturers and contracting companies.

TPS was named Middle East and Caspian regional winner in the International Training Organisation of the Year category at this year's event held at Glaziers Hall in London. It was presented the regional title at the ceremony by award category sponsor, KBR.

The International Training Provider of the Year award acknowledges excellence in the delivery of ECITB-approved training, products and services in key ECI skills and health and safety programmes by an ECITB Global licensed provider.

Having operated from Dammam in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, since 2005, TPS is heavily involved in pipeline construction projects.

As well as being praised for the quality of its training, judges recognised TPS for championing the ECITB in the country.

The company first approached ECITB Global in 2023 with a view to offering internationally accredited MJI training and testing to augment its torquing and bolting tool sales.

On the top recognition, Operations Manager Mutahir Zaib said: "It is amazing and exciting that we won the award. It’s a big achievement for us and we really appreciate it."

"It has been a great honour for TPS to be involved with ECITB Global in the last two years. We would like to thank ECITB for all its support since 2023 and for the opportunity to visit London for these awards," he added.

Lauding the winners, ECITB Chief Executive Andrew Hockey said: "It fills me with great hope to see commitment to skills development showcased throughout industry, in Great Britain and globally, in the inspiring entries we received this year for the awards."

"Congratulations to TPS, as well as our other winners and finalists, who are great examples of these success stories over the past year and set standards to which we all aspire," he stated.

The ECITB’s Mechanical Joint Integrity (MJI) scheme reflects industry ‘good practice’ for the training and competence of workers in relation to mechanical joint operations.

A four-stage model helps develop the knowledge and skills required to dismantle, prepare, secure and reassemble mechanical joint connection.

TPS has embraced the MJI scheme since starting to deliver training to workers in Saudi Arabia two years ago.

Initially, the company provided services to industry before it started manufacturing its own tools and then approached ECITB Global to become a licensed training provider.

In mid-2025, it also gained approval and started delivering ECITB on-site machining (OSM) training.

TPS Sales Manager Abdul Razzak Shaikh said: "Working with the ECITB has been excellent and given us international recognition. Being a brand ambassador of ECITB in Saudi Arabia has helped us a lot. It has also given us a roadmap in terms of the guidelines for the different steps of the MJI model, which plays a significant role in teaching technicians and has been really beneficial."

"Being manufacturers of hydraulic torquing tools as well as one of the ECITB’s licensed training providers, we have an edge when we compare with other training providers, suppliers or service providers in the market," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
