China plans to upgrade some outdated petrochemical plants while phasing out others ‌by 2029, a government document released  said.

The work will proceed using lists of outdated facilities compiled by ⁠local governments last year, according to the document issued by the country's industry ministry and six other departments, reported Reuters.

The document did not say how many plants may be upgraded or phased out.

From ‌next ⁠year, authorities will conduct annual rolling surveys and assess any newly identified outdated facilities.

China plans to reduce oil ⁠refining production capacity to promote a better supply-demand balance in sectors such ⁠as petrochemicals, according to an annual report from the ⁠country's state planning agency last month.
