Britain has introduced temporary measures allowing airlines to combine passengers from multiple flights onto fewer aircraft to cut jet fuel use, the Department for Transport said.
The rules enable
airlines to merge services on routes with several daily flights, shifting
passengers to departures with spare capacity instead of operating lightly
booked or cancellation-prone flights, according to PA Media.
The aim is to reduce
fuel waste and improve efficiency.
The opposition
Conservative Party criticised the move, saying passengers may be reassigned
without choice.
Officials said the
changes should also enhance schedule reliability and boost traveller
confidence.
The measures come as
concerns grow over potential jet fuel shortages ahead of the holiday season,
linked to supply chain disruptions and geopolitical tensions affecting Middle
East fuel supplies. -TradeArabia News Service
