SLB has entered into an agreement to acquire Houston-based technology company Tachyus, which specialises in high-speed reservoir modelling and optimisation.
The deal is aimed at strengthening SLB’s digital portfolio
with advanced physics-based and AI-enabled reservoir modelling capabilities to
improve recovery rates and accelerate decision-making in oil and gas
operations.
Tachyus develops software that combines machine learning and
reservoir physics to simulate reservoir behaviour under varying operating
conditions.
Its Aqueon platform has been deployed across more than 7,500
wells globally, supporting applications such as waterflood management,
production optimisation, pressure forecasting, saltwater disposal, and enhanced
oil recovery.
The technology enables operators to evaluate thousands of
reservoir scenarios in minutes, allowing faster tactical decisions while
maintaining alignment with long-term field development strategies.
This is increasingly important as energy companies focus on
maximising output from mature assets and improving operational efficiency.
Following completion of the transaction, SLB plans to
integrate Tachyus technology into its Delfi digital platform and Lumi data and
AI platform to enable closed-loop reservoir management workflows.
The acquisition is expected to close shortly, subject to
customary regulatory conditions.
“Reservoir management is becoming increasingly dynamic as
operators look to maximise recovery from existing assets,” said Rakesh Jaggi,
president of SLB’s Digital business. “The addition of Tachyus will strengthen
our ability to deliver operational reservoir management workflows that help
customers manage and optimise complex enhanced oil recovery schemes.” -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
