Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and bp have signed a new Technical Services Contract for ONGC’s Western Offshore Basin, expanding their collaboration beyond Mumbai High to one of India’s most important hydrocarbon-producing regions.
The agreement was signed on 25 June 2026 in the presence of
India’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, and senior
government officials.
Under the contract, bp has been appointed as the Technical
Services Provider (TSP) for ONGC’s 43-block Western Offshore Basin, which has
contributed significantly to India’s domestic oil and gas output for over four
decades.
ONGC, which accounts for around 64 per cent of India’s crude
oil and natural gas production, will retain full ownership and operational
control of the assets.
bp will work alongside ONGC teams to deploy advanced
technologies and global best practices to improve reservoir performance, well
productivity, and production efficiency.
The partnership aims to slow natural production decline,
enhance hydrocarbon recovery, and support sustained output growth across mature
fields.
The contract builds on the earlier Mumbai High agreement
signed in February 2025, where the collaboration delivered improved production
performance through optimisation of wells and reservoir management.
Under the new deal, bp will receive a fixed fee for the
initial two years, followed by a performance-linked service fee based on
incremental production gains.
Arun Kumar Singh, ONGC Chairman and CEO, said: “Building on
the encouraging outcomes at Mumbai High, this expanded collaboration will
support improved recovery, greater efficiency and sustained production growth.”
Kartikeya Dube, bp India Chairman, and bp Senior Vice President, said: “We look forward to bringing bp’s global expertise to support enhanced production from the Western Offshore Basin and strengthen India’s energy security.” -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
