Equinor and German energy company Uniper have signed a 15-year agreement under which Equinor will supply more than 30 terawatt-hours (TWh), or about 2.8 billion cubic metres, of natural gas annually to Germany.

The deal runs from January 1, 2027, through December 31, 2041, with deliveries made at Trading Hub Europe, Germany’s gas market area.

Pricing will reflect market conditions, while other commercial terms remain confidential.

Germany is Equinor’s largest natural gas market and has been a key destination for Norwegian gas since exports began in 1977.

 The new contract starts as Norway and Equinor mark 50 years of gas exports to Germany.

The companies also signed a non-binding letter of intent to explore sales of sustainability-related attributes linked to the gas supplies.

These attributes include independently verified data on gas origin, greenhouse-gas intensity and other sustainability characteristics, made available through Equinor’s digital Attributes platform.

Equinor said natural gas is expected to remain important to Europe’s energy mix, supporting energy security, industrial activity and system flexibility as renewable power and low-carbon gases expand.
