Acwa, in consortium with Water Transmission Company (WTCO), has signed a Technical Services Agreement with Syria’s Ministry of Energy and engineering consultancy Fichtner to assess the country’s water resources and develop seawater desalination and transmission solutions.

The agreement follows a Joint Development Agreement signed in February 2026 and will examine Syria’s current and future water needs.

The study will identify priority projects and create a roadmap for sustainable water infrastructure, ranking options based on impact, deliverability and speed to market.

Mohamed Nahhas, CEO Syria, Acwa, said: “We now look forward to beginning the detailed technical work needed to define the solutions required to meet the challenges and objectives laid out in the JDA, which will provide the Ministry of Energy with a clear, evidence-based view of available resources, future demand and the priority projects needed to support a sustainable water system.” -TradeArabia News Service
