bp has reported the presence of hydrocarbons at an exploration well in the deep-water Tupinambá block in Brazil’s Santos Basin, notifying the Brazilian National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) of the discovery.
The well, designated 1-BP-14-SPS, is located approximately
275 kilometres off the Brazilian coast in water depths of 2,343 metres.
Evaluation of the post-salt section at Tupinambá is ongoing,
while drilling operations continue towards the pre-salt section to assess
further exploration potential.
Following completion of operations at Tupinambá, the
Transocean Deepwater Mykonos drillship is expected to move to bp’s Bumerangue
block, also offshore Brazil, to begin its appraisal programme.
bp operates the Tupinambá block with a 50 per cent working
interest, alongside Shell, which holds the remaining 50 per cent, subject to
regulatory approval.
Pré-Sal Petróleo S/A (PPSA) manages the production sharing
contract (PSC) for the block, which was awarded in December 2023 under the
ANP’s second Permanent Offer auction for production-sharing agreements. -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
