ADNOC has taken a final investment decision (FID) on the Ruwais Diyab Unconventional Gas Development in Abu Dhabi, marking a major step in its integrated global gas growth strategy and efforts to unlock additional domestic energy resources.
Announced at ADIPEC,
the project is expected to deliver 345 million standard cubic feet per day
(mmscfd) of raw gas from 2029 over a 25-year period, with the potential to
increase production to up to one billion standard cubic feet per day (scfd) in
the future.
The gas will be
processed on site and connected to the UAE’s national gas network through new
pipeline infrastructure.
The development is
expected to strengthen domestic gas supplies, support economic and industrial
growth, and contribute to ADNOC’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) export ambitions.
Dr Sultan Al Jaber,
UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and ADNOC Managing Director
and Group CEO, said: “Ruwais Diyab is ADNOC’s first large-scale unconventional
gas development and this FID marks an important milestone in unlocking Abu
Dhabi’s vast gas resources. This investment will strengthen the UAE’s energy
security, support industrial growth and advance ADNOC’s integrated global gas
growth strategy to responsibly meet rising demand at home and abroad.”
The UAE holds the
world's seventh-largest gas reserves, comprising 298 trillion standard cubic
feet of conventional gas reserves and 160 trillion standard cubic feet (tscf)
of unconventional gas resources.
With global demand for
reliable, lower-carbon energy continuing to grow, ADNOC is accelerating efforts
to develop the country's gas resources and expand its LNG portfolio.
The strategy aims to
meet rising demand from domestic and international customers while supporting
industrial expansion and the growing energy requirements of artificial
intelligence (AI) infrastructure.
Additional production
from Ruwais Diyab will strengthen ADNOC’s integrated gas value chain and
support ADNOC Gas in meeting increasing demand across its customer markets.
The project also
advances ADNOC’s ambition to establish a scalable unconventional gas business,
creating a platform for further development and future production growth.
Its development
follows extensive technical studies, field testing and subsurface analysis
undertaken by ADNOC Onshore under a design-build-operate (DBO) model to reduce
project risks.
The development will
combine advanced subsurface expertise with AI-enabled drilling and completion
technologies, alongside integrated project delivery capabilities, to support
the efficient and responsible development of Abu Dhabi’s unconventional gas resources. -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
