Crescent Petroleum has selected SLB to deploy its digital field development planning solution under a new three-year agreement, marking the first commercial adoption of the FDPlan solution in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
The deployment builds
on Crescent Petroleum’s existing use of SLB’s Delfi digital platform for
reservoir engineering workflows and aims to improve development planning and
investment decisions through integrated digital technology.
FDPlan brings together
subsurface, wells, facilities, production, cost and economic workflows in a
shared digital environment, enabling multidisciplinary teams to evaluate
development scenarios and compare options more efficiently.
“Crescent Petroleum
has been an early adopter of cloud-enabled digital workflows in the region, and
this deployment takes that approach further into field development planning,”
said Dany Rahal, managing director, UAE, SLB. “Connecting reservoir insight with
engineering and economic considerations gives teams a more complete view of
development options and strengthens the basis for planning and investment
decisions.”
Crescent Petroleum has
already recorded improvements in reservoir analysis through its use of the
Delfi platform. Using cloud-enabled, scalable high-performance computing, the
company reduced simulation times for selected large dual-porosity and dual-permeability
reservoir models involving millions of grid cells from approximately six hours
to around 50 minutes.
The technology also
enabled its teams to complete approximately 140 simulation runs in one month,
covering history matching and prediction, compared with around 20 runs using
the previous computing environment.
The latest agreement
extends these digital capabilities beyond reservoir analysis into wider field
development planning, connecting technical and economic disciplines within a
common workflow.
The deployment
represents a further step in Crescent Petroleum’s adoption of cloud-enabled
technologies to streamline development processes, accelerate scenario
evaluation and support more informed investment decisions. -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
