Background
The joint venture of Qatar Petroleum (QP) and ExxonMobil is developing the Barzan Gas project to produce gas from Qatar’s non-associated North Field for utilization in the domestic market, primarily for power generation and water desalination.
Project status
December 2015: According to the the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics, the Barzan Gas project slightly stretches its timeline.
The project is nearing completion and is to become operational early 2016 with full output the following year.
Project scope
The scope of work includes the engineering, procurement, and construction of two gas processing trains, each train with a capacity of 850 million cubic feet per day including Gas Processing Unit, Sulphur Recovery Unit and NGL Recovery Unit to produce methane, ethane, propane, butane and condensate.
Project finance
The Barzan Gas Project is currently under project management from RasGas, it’s a joint venture between Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil.
The shareholding structure is as follows:
• QP, 90 per cent
• ExxonMobil, 10 per cent
