SLB’s Tela uses agentic AI to transform workflows

SLB, an energy technology company, has launched Tela, an advanced AI assistant designed specifically for the upstream energy sector.

Tela utilises agentic AI to automate processes and enhance workflows, ultimately improving business outcomes.

It will be integrated into SLB’s existing applications and platforms, allowing users to engage through an intuitive conversational interface.

Tela operates through a five-step loop: observe, plan, generate, act, and learn, enabling proactive collaboration that boosts productivity and efficiency.

It can interpret well logs, predict drilling challenges, and optimise equipment performance, working alongside humans or autonomously for informed decision-making.

Tailored for the energy industry, Tela is powered by SLB’s Lumi data and AI platform, leveraging large language models and domain-specific foundations to generate real-time insights.

This framework allows customers to create and manage their own Tela agents, integrate partner solutions, and customise functionalities based on operational needs.

"Technology like Tela marks a paradigm shift in how AI supports the energy industry, from subsurface to operations," said Rakesh Jaggi, president, Digital and Integration, SLB. "Today, the industry faces a dual challenge: a leaner workforce and increased technical complexity, and Tela can address both. Tela doesn’t just automate tasks — it can understand goals, make decisions and take action. It’s the convergence of 100 years of domain science and cutting-edge digital technology, amplifying human ingenuity and redefining how work gets done."
