The Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) was praised for its role during the past 25 years as the umbrella of all state oil activities.
In a speech marking the silver jubilee of the KPC, Minister of Energy Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahd Al Sabah said oil companies 25 years ago used to act on singular basis, which helped force out the idea to set up an umbrella body to overlook oil production, marketing and exploration activities.
He said the move helped increase effectiveness of coordination and decision-making and organise relations between the different state oil companies. KPC took over worldwide marketing of Kuwaiti oil, organise the administrative structure and coordination of the different state-owned companies, he said.
KPC was able to bear significant responsibilities during the past two decades with regard to increase of oil production capacity, expand of world marketing outlets by establishing a wide network of customers, the minister said.
During the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait on August 2, 1990 and the seven-month occupation of the country, KPC was able of running its London-bureau proving its adaptation to the crisis, Sheikh Ahmed recalled.
