THE OGWA 2008 Exhibition will feature over 150 local and international oil and gas companies including many major players in the industry as well as national oil and gas companies.
To be held at the Oman International Exhibition Centre, the three-day event will prominently showcase the products, technologies, oilfield services and accomplishments of companies that serve as the backbone of the region’s biggest and most important industry. In addition to Oman, other countries that will be represented in the exhibition include Bahrain, China, Germany, India, Iran, Italy, Kuwait, Russia, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, UK, and USA.
An international conference – dubbed the SPE EOR Conference – will also be held in conjunction with the exhibition to give industry professionals an opportunity to discuss the technical issues and challenges facing the industry. For the first time, the OGWA conference will be managed and organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), a global organisation that is committed to enhancing the technical and professional competence of oil & gas industry professionals. As its title implies, the focus of the conference will be on “Enhanced Oil Recovery,” and it will feature experts who will discuss the range of EOR technologies now being applied for maximising production.
“OGWA 2008 will be the biggest gathering in Oman of oil and gas companies and industry professionals since we first launched the biennial event in 1998,” said CJ Paul, general manager of Omanexpo, the company organising the event. “This is largely due to the fact that Oman is currently a highly attractive market for all types of products and services for the oil and gas industry.”
Paul pointed out that OGWA 2008 comes at a time when numerous exploration and production activities are now in full swing across the sultanate. With more than 20 major E&P companies currently operating in Oman, the intensified efforts to boost the sultanate’s production output have already borne fruits with the recent discovery of new oil and gas fields in many parts of the country.
In view of this, the ministry of oil and gas has recently announced that oil production is expected to increase significantly this year to about 790,000 barrels per day, compared to only 710,000 bpd in 2007. The prevailing upward trend in natural gas production and consumption—which reached 982.388 million cubic feet (MCF) from January to November 2007 — is also projected to continue in the coming years.
