A stretch of pipeline designed to deliver oil pumped from the Jidong Oilfield, in northern China’s Hebei Province, is to become operational before the end of the year.

The Jidong Oilfield is located 200 km east of Beijing, China’s capital. Its crude oil output is expected to reach 1 million tonnes this year and hit 1.5 mllion tonnes in 2005.
However, the lack of pipeline connecting or running through the field has been limiting its development. With the aiming of boosting delivery capacity, the newly launched pipeline running from Jidong Oilfield is to connect with the Qinjing Pipeline, which currently transmits oil unloaded in the port city of Qinhuangdao to Beijing.
Yanshan Petrochemical, providing close to 80 per cent of Beijing’s oil products, depends entirely on the line for feedstock.
The state oil giant PetroChina’s pipeline subsidiary is at present working on the 78.5 km long pipeline.
