Reserve tanks to be ready soon

China's third set of strategic oil reserve tanks in the port city of Qingdao will be completed by the end of the year, adding about 3 million cubic metres of capacity, an official said.

"They should be more or less finished by the end of the year," Wang Jianping, deputy director of the city government's Development and Reform Commission, said.
"The last time I visited the tanks were ready, and construction of roads, pipelines, fire control, and the automated control system were under way," he added.
A local source said in June that the first batch of tanks had been tested with a small amount of oil, and constructors are required to complete the remaining 20 tanks by the end of this year.
Huangdao was previously scheduled to be ready for use by the end of 2008.
But Wang declined to predict when oil might start flowing into the tanks, saying the decision would be made by the central government.
