THE 2008 Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (Adipec) will be the “best ever” according to conference chairman, Ali Al Jarwan, who is general manager of Adma-Opco, Adnoc’s primary offshore producer.
Billed as the biggest oil and gas industry event in the world and shading the Houston and Calgary shows as the world focuses on the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region for its most accessible energy assets, Adipec takes place in the capital of the UAE. It will be huge, with an expected 35,000 industry executives who are decision makers, and leading personnel within the international oil and gas industry attending the show and conferences.
The exhibition alone commands more than 80,000 sq m of space. Some 1,500 exhibitors will be present as Adipec brings together manufacturers, products and services providers along with practically all of the world’s oil and gas majors including Adnoc, PDO, QP, KPC, Dolphin, Statoil, China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation, Jomeg and Gasprom from this hemisphere and ExxonMobil, Total, Shell, BP, Conoco Phillips, Occidental, Haliburton, Schlumberger, Baker Hughes, Weatherford, ABB and Siemens, from the West.
But the particular attraction for oil and gas professionals will be the interaction, networking and shared views to be found at Adipec’s conferences and social events, which are organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), and feature top class speakers and panelists. This year the conference theme is “Working together to deliver sustainable growth: innovative teams and technology deployment”, which talks to the whole system of human resources and technology in the industry and what we can do to optimise oil and energy production and usage for the benefit of the planet and future generations.
As Jarwan says: “We are in the centre of the world’s most active oil and energy markets and a bridge between East and West in terms of oil consumers.”
“I am so happy that some of the best experts in the world are coming in to speak to our conference delegates and attend the exhibition It will be exceptional!”
There will be seven separate subjects addressed by the conference comprising: geoscience; field development; maintenance, integration and operations; engineering and projects: drilling and completions: health, safety and environmental issues as well as addressing the challenges and need for specific competencies facing the industry’s human resources departments.
Alongside the Adipec 2008 Exhibition and Conference, will be the second Energy 2030 conference, designed to illustrate Abu Dhabi’s commitment to leading the global debate for energy resources of the future. This is set to inspire some proactive discussion on the global debate on energy. Dr Ohadi, professor, provost and interim president for Abu Dhabi’s Petroleum Institute, says: “Providing sustainable energy is a top agenda item of the world in this century. Having a realistic understanding of the available options now and in the future can serve critically useful to the strategic planning of research and development in oil and gas and the broader energy areas. The primary objective of Energy 2030 forum of experts is to provide a collective independent expert opinion on the current status and future outlook of various energy resources and technologies.” If any further incentive is required to be involved in Adipec 2008, consider the more than $350 billion that is planned to be invested in the oil, gas and energy industries in the region in the next ten years.
