ABB reaffirms commitment to Gulf oil and gas industry

ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has stressed its commitment to supporting the region’s oil and gas sector through product innovation. Speaking in the run up to Petrotech Middle East 2010, set to be held in Bahrain May 23-26, ABB Saudi Arabia’s local business unit manager for the oil, gas and petrochemical business unit, outlined the importance of the oil and gas industry to both ABB and the region’s development.

“There’s no doubt that the Gulf’s oil and gas industry has been pivotal to the development of the economy over the last fifty years,” said Ali Al-Dawood. “Oil and gas production has helped the region weather the economic downturn. We at ABB have noticed that oil and gas producers are focusing on resource optimisation to increase existing yields through technological innovations.”

At this year’s Petrotech Middle East show, ABB will be showcasing a range of process automation solutions at stand number 531. On display will be ABB’s range of analysers, instrumentation solutions, drives, motors, dry- and oil-type transformers, and low-voltage equipment for the oil and gas sector, as well as information on ABB’s service offerings. ABB Sweden’s Per Lundmark will also be presenting a seminar focusing on control room operator efficiency through technology utilisation. The central exhibit on ABB’s stand will be the latest Extended Operator Workplace (EOW) for ABB’s System 800xA automation platform. EOW provides operators with a fully interactive overview of the entire process, synchronises all process data (including closed-circuit television) into one interface in real time, and enables users to configure the workplace to their exact needs. ABB’s EOW solution is installed in oil and gas platforms all over the world.

“There’s been a shift by oil and gas firms towards greater efficiency. In fact, one of our latest projects in Bahrain with Bapco was the implementation of a Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analyser. The ABB solution enables Bapco to make accurate predictions of 13 critical gasoline properties within three minutes,” he said.
