Background
Emirates LNG will develop a new LNG facility on the UAE east coast in Fujairah. The project will provide Middle East’s first and largest land-based LNG regasification facility. Benefiting from the project will be the Fujairah 1 and 2 integrated water and power plants (IWPP) mainly from Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (Adwea).
Project status
October 2014: Technical bids for the package 2 of 2 have been submitted by CB&I Lummus, Entrepose Contracting, IHI Corporation and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
Commercial bids submission is set for December.
Project scope
The LNG terminal project will have a proposed final capacity of 9 million tonnes a year of LNG or 1.2 billion cubic feet a day (bcfd) of gas. Once completed, the UAE will have an LNG import capacity of 12 million tonnes per year.
Scope includes:
• Regasification terminal & land based regasification terminal;
• Onshore import terminal & vaporisation unit; and
• Associated facilities.
Project finance
Mubadala Development Company and International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC) announced the establishment of 50 per cent partner in the Emirates LNG joint venture.
